The Definition of a “Main Door” in Feng Shui

Feng Shui considers the front door to be an important part of the arrangement of a space. Whether it’s commercial or residential, the front door nourishes the space with chi energy. Strength, however, is not the only consideration. Here are some qualities of the “main door” in a feng shui arrangement.

Unobstructed

Because all energy in the home flows through the front door, the space must remain free from obstructions. That means that there are no potted plants, trash bins, or other items blocking the entrance to your home. The main door should adorn the patio by itself.

Well-Maintained

The door of your home should open widely and smoothly. If it squeaks, oil the hinges. It should also be aesthetically pleasing. Metal doors, for instance, are prone to paint cracking over time. A new paint job on an old door can revitalize the look of your home. Also remove any forgotten wreaths that may be hanging from the door, as well as rusty doorknobs.

Direction

A strong chi flow is only possible if it can penetrate the space and spread to the interior. Therefore, the front door should give way to a clear entry way with lots of open space to move about within.

Energy

Feng Shui uses the staging of your home to direct energy throughout the space. Careful application of feng shui could leave your home feeling brighter, and give you more energy to approach the day.
