How to clean wicker furniture

Wicker furniture is a popular choice for casual living, both indoors and out. Made out of bamboo, rattan, or other reeds and plant fibers, wicker is a natural product. But different types of wicker often require different ways of care and cleaning. Not to worry, this advice from Wicker Paradise will keep your cushions clean.

Before cleaning your wicker furniture sets you should, of course, remove any cushions and fabric. And clean those items according to the manufacturers’ instructions.

Brush off the furniture regularly or use your vacuum’s brush attachment. Be sure to set its suction at the lowest level. Do not press too hard to avoid breaking. If necessary, use wood glue to repair any damage. Be sure to let the glue dry before continuing to clean. If you have major damage, take your piece to a professional. Once or twice a year or more, if necessary, wash your furniture with a soft cloth and soapy water. Mold and mildew can be removed with a mixture of 25% white vinegar and 75% water.
Before replacing cushions, dry your furniture using a hair dryer.

For your outside or resin patio furniture, use a 1/4 cup of dish soap and 2 cups of warm water. Rinse with a garden hose. Dry in the sun or, again, use a hair dryer before replacing cushions

Use a small brush or an old toothbrush for nooks and crannies. Avoid stiff brushes or harsh abrasives that could destroy the finish.

The finish on outdoor wicker furniture can be restored by rubbing on a light coating of linseed oil.
